Next to God




Bible Text: Galatians 5.16-26

To hear God's voice is such a sweet experience. It is like a child that hears the parents calling him/her. Children enjoyed talking with their parents and sharing what they have done during the day. They want to know there are loved and care for. On the other hand, when we speak to our parents, we receive wise counsel and wisdom from their age. 

Being next to God is exactly like those two illustrations. We feel loved by God, and the Lord gives guidance and strength in our everyday life. The Holy Spirit can speak anywhere; however, there is something special to take quality time to be next to Him.

My daughter rightly wants my full attention when we are together. The Lord also desires to have our full attention. Otherwise, we may miss what the Holy Spirit is saying. His directions help us to follow Jesus' steps in every situation.

Today, our bible reading describes the qualities of a believer who is seeking to be more like Jesus and demonstrate the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5.22-23). Remember, it is the Holy Spirit that produces the fruit on us. We just need to spend time next to God and be lead by him. Then, we will see the change. It will bring joy, as we see the Father's love transforming us insight out.

Today, come closer to the Lord as you spend time on the couch with God. Ask Him to talk with you, help you in your everyday needs, and send the Holy Spirit to guide you and comfort you.

FEARFUL

Worship

Text: Psalm 104.24-35 Psalm 104 starts and ends with the words, “Praise the Lord, my soul”. The beginning and the end are a proclamation of praise to the Almighty God. In fact, the whole psalm is a review of the greatness of God in creation and, therefore, a meditation on God’s providence. To consider such things, helps us to draw closer to God and worship Him. If we are sincere with ourselves, our daily situations (children, work, news, stress, etc.) can take our attention away from God. It is not easy to just plug-in and worship the Lord. I find myself missing so much of God’s creation, because my mind wanders off to my daily concerns. My wife calls me to really see the beauty around us, otherwise I would miss it. How easy it is for us to be carried away and not once lift our eyes to the Lord, and worship Him that created the earth.
