A Fresh Beginning



Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. (Deuteronomy 6:5-6)

Israel stands on the edge of something new. God heard their cries to be set free from the bondage of slavery in Egypt. Then he leads them to the Land of Promise (read Exodus) through a series of miraculous events. Slavery lies behind, and freedom lies ahead. Before they enter their new home, God has an important message relevant to all of us.

We stand on the edge of something new too, as we celebrate the 125th anniversary of Christ Church Exmouth. God’s message to Israel and us is not about a change of venue or what year it is. His message of a fresh start is about loving him within the depths of our hearts. The kind of love that means choosing to be different, giving him everything and putting him at the centre of our lives. It’s a simple yet challenging message of surrender to his love.

ON THE COUCH WITH GOD

As we celebrate 125 years of life together, our hope for 2022 isn’t that we have left 2021 behind—but that we totally and sincerely follow God into the New Year. Make your primary new year’s resolution be to love God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

FEARFUL

Text: Psalm 104.24-35 Psalm 104 starts and ends with the words, “Praise the Lord, my soul”. The beginning and the end are a proclamation of praise to the Almighty God. In fact, the whole psalm is a review of the greatness of God in creation and, therefore, a meditation on God’s providence. To consider such things, helps us to draw closer to God and worship Him. If we are sincere with ourselves, our daily situations (children, work, news, stress, etc.) can take our attention away from God. It is not easy to just plug-in and worship the Lord. I find myself missing so much of God’s creation, because my mind wanders off to my daily concerns. My wife calls me to really see the beauty around us, otherwise I would miss it. How easy it is for us to be carried away and not once lift our eyes to the Lord, and worship Him that created the earth.
