Incarnation
Merry Christmas!!!!
Over the past few days, we have read about the baby Jesus as the Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. He is ‘God with us’, Immanuel. This is great news! Because He came and, through Him, all things were made new, you and I have been made new in Christ. Hallelujah! Paul writes we are a new creation (Gal. 6:15; 2 Cor. 5:17).
After that first Christmas, the world was different. Jesus changed everything. The spiritual world became visual to the natural world in Christ. God’s Kingdom was inaugurated into it, and our world was impacted by God’s intervention to transform it by His Son. Now Christmas is also a time when we can look forward to His return to the earth.
This is why Christmas is a time of celebration. We celebrate as a family, because we have the promise that all believers are part of God’s family. The feast is a sign to the future feast of the Lamb. Christmas is a time where all things point to Jesus and His promises. It is a time of rejoicing and being glad.
There may be things that we feel uncomfortable about as the communities around us celebrate in their own way; but as Christians let us embrace Jesus at the centre of our celebrations. Despite the difficulties of this year, our reasons to celebrate Jesus do not change, we can rejoice in His future. If you shed a tear in sadness and recent pain, let Jesus carry you through this season.
Remember, something real has changed in history through the story of Jesus. It is a time to know that the best it is just to come.
Today, I invite you to gather around the table and read the Christmas story found in Luke 2 together. Find the beautiful story of Immanuel, God with us. No greater story has ever been told. He came because the Lord God has not forgotten you.
