Word

Text: Psalm 19:7-9

In the past few days, we have thought about God revealing Himself through creation and nature. Today, I would bring to your attention another aspect of God’s revelation: through The Word. we are able to know him, as God reveals Himself to all people.

David has declared about the beautiful nature that says so much about our God and Lord. Now, the Psalm turns to the Sacred Word. We find that God also reveals His character and qualities through the written pages of Scripture.

As you read the Bible text today, you may be aware and even overcome by the emotions that David expresses. He understood the power of God’s Word, that it changes the heart of humankind in a way unknown in any other text. David turns our attention to “the instructions of the Lord is perfect”, “testimony of the Lord is trustworthy”, “the precepts of the Lord are right”, “the ordinances of the Lord are reliable and altogether righteous.”

God not only reveals himself through the world he’s created, he also reveals himself through His Word. After reflecting on the created world, and what it tells us about God, David now turns to Scripture and how God reveals himself on the written page. In the space of these three verses, God’s Word and what it accomplishes overwhelms David.

He recognised the benefits of Scripture and the gains in spending time in the pages of God’s Word. So much so that David invites the reader to sing it. Then, our souls may be refreshed by the melody and resounding of the Word. We become wiser and our hearts fill with joy and gladness. Our eyes will raise towards the heavens and see the splendour might of the Lord God.

Life has its struggles and challenges. David knew it, as he faced many of his own. For those of us that face our own battles, it is possible that we feel the weight of the evening and long nights, as David did. The Word should be a place to find comfort and strength as we open it and read it carefully. The truth in the Scripture will uplift our hearts to the Lord, who is our Rock and our Salvation.

Today, I invite you to take a minute to open God’s Word and slowly read through Psalm 19. Take your time as you allow God to renew your soul and increase your joy and wisdom.
