Saturate Yourself With Truth

"Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist" (Ephesians 6:14)

Know this: when the enemy comes after you, everything he says to you will be a lie, because Satan is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44). Lies are one of the greatest tools in his arsenal, which is why Paul instructs Christians to combat him with truth, wearing it as a belt around our waists.

So what lies has the enemy been feeding for you? Are they lies about yourself, how you see yourself, what others say about you, how you judge your own self-worth? Perhaps it’s your past, the enemy constantly attempting to chain you to a past that God has forgiven you for long ago. Maybe it’s a current situation you’re in that seems hopeless, and it seems hopeless because of the lies the enemy has been feeding you. Or maybe the enemy has fed you lies about God, who He is and how He wants to interact with you. The lies of the enemy are as relentless as waves on the shore.

What’s even worse for many Christians is that too many of us willingly surround ourselves with lies through modern media. We spend hours saturating ourselves with lies through social media about how amazing everyone else’s life is compared to ours. We spend hours absorbing television shows that promote lies about how relationships could and should work. We watch movies that promote lies about sexual ethics and what’s really important in life.

If you want to start winning spiritual warfare in your world, saturate yourself with truth, which itself starts when you choose to stop saturating your mind with the lies of the world.

ON THE COUCH WITH GOD

1. What lies do you see in the world around you about values, relationships and what’s most important? How often do you willingly choose to saturate yourself in the lies of the world through media?

2. Where is truth in your world that you can saturate yourself in? What are true things that can and should be an anchor to you? Give specific examples.

NEXT STEP

The next step in saturating yourself with truth is to filter your media. If you want to saturate yourself with truth, it always begins by choosing to abstain from lies. So find one form of media, whether it’s television, movies, the internet, social media, talk radio, something at the center of your life. Choose to willingly abstain from that media for the next seven days to reset and recenter your mind around truth.
