The Danger

If you’re reading this right now then be warned. This devotional to spiritual warfare is a bit dangerous, not to you, but to your way of life. If ignorance is bliss, it aims to destroy that bliss forever. Imagine living in a house infested with termites. For years you never noticed them. Just beyond reach, just out of sight, they lived, they ate, they spawned, they festered. For all those years you blindly ate, played, and slept, unaware of the lurking presence right beneath your head at night. If you live in a house full of termites is it better to know or is it simpler to live in ignorance?

If you prefer ignorance, then stop reading right now. If you don’t want to know about the spiritual forces that have been eating away at the foundation of your life and family like termites, then there’s no need to go any farther. Ignorance is in fact bliss, at least for the short term. This book’s aim is nothing short of ripping up the base boards, pulling out the sheetrock and exposing the dangerous forces attempting to destroy everything good about your life. But more than that, this book will give you practical tools and weapons to fight back with, to take hold of the victory that is rightfully yours. But to do that, we’re going to have to turn over some rocks and see what slimy, slithery creatures are underneath. We’re going to expose some hidden areas in your life that you might prefer to stay hidden. But the intent is not to harm you, it’s to heal you. The intent is not to frighten you but bring you freedom.

If you have termites eating away at the foundation of your house, you need to know. You can’t solve a problem until you know it exists, as uncomfortable as that might be. This book will give you the tools not just to identify but to win the spiritual battles that you might not even realize you’re fighting.

ON THE COUCH WITH GOD

1. What do you think of when you hear the phrase “spiritual warfare”? How would you define it? How familiar are you with spiritual warfare?

2. If you were honest, are you the type of person that prefers to remain in ignorance, even if it’s harmful for you in the long run? Are you nervous to see what slimy things are lurking underneath the rocks in your life that you haven’t turned over in years?

NEXT STEP

Each day you’ll be given a Next Step, something practical to do to begin to win the war in the spiritual. Today’s Next Step is simple: keep reading. Come back tomorrow, then the next day, then the next. Finishing this devotional is itself a victory, so discipline yourself, decide to press on, and do it!
