Fight Together

Stand . . . Take . . . Pray. Ephesians 6:10, 14, 18

When God created the earth, everything He created was good, because God is good and perfect. But God Himself declared something not good in creation, when Adam was created and alone, The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18). We are created for community, we are hardwired for relationships, first and foremost with God but also for each other.

The problem is technology has created a world where we can do everything in isolation. We can shop online, we can interact with others online through social media, we can even go to church online. When the enemy isolates us, he wins, every time. When you engage in spiritual warfare, if you’re faithful to leverage steps one through nine but you fail in step ten (fight together), you will be defeated. You are not designed to fight alone. You are not intended to be a solitary bulwark against the forces of darkness attacking those you love. You need allies, you need teammates, you need fellow soldiers in the trenches with you. So who’s your squad? Who are you battling alongside? Who’s fighting for you? Who in your family are you walking through this 30-day experience with? With whom in your small group at church are you sharing what God is teaching you? Who do you know is praying for you every day, and are you giving them specific things to pray for? As great as this book might be for you, it will fail if you try and do it alone. Please take this seriously. Don’t fight alone! Put this book down and don’t pick it up until you enlist two or three other Christians (family members or otherwise) willing to do spiritual battle alongside you.

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION

1. Over the past month of this journey, have you been any more intentional to do life (and spiritual warfare) with other believers? This question isn’t intended to shame you but to draw attention to the critical importance of community.

2. Who in your world is struggling alone? Who is isolated, lonely, in despair? Ask the Spirit (step five) to show you someone you can reach out to today and do battle alongside with (write their name below).

NEXT STEP

The next step in fighting together is to discuss what you’re learning with someone else. If you’ve been reading this on your own up to this point, you’re not getting the full benefits of this book. Bring someone into this conversation, share what you’re learning, ask someone to fight alongside you.
