See the Supernatural Behind the Natural



For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

Cancer is an unseen killer, eating you from the inside out whether you realize it or not. Anyone familiar with cancer knows that the earlier you detect it, the better chance you have of defeating it. Stage one and stage four cancer are two completely different worlds. But to fight cancer you have to know it’s there. If you want to fight for your family, you have to know what’s attacking it. You have to see the battle before you can start fighting.

Know from the beginning that a healthy, vibrant, God-honoring family is an affront to the enemy and he will do everything he can to tear it apart. The love and commitment within your family honors God, making your family a target. But as you hopefully understand by now, that should not cause you to fear. It should cause you to fight back, righteously defending what is yours.

The first step is awareness. Where is the health and wholeness of your family under attack? Is there a growing distance between spouses, allowing the busyness of life to snuff out the flame of romance? Is there an addiction that is destroying the family from within? Are there negative friends and influences in the lives of the parents or kids? Is there an emotional divide between parents and children? Is God’s word the primary influence in the household or is it modern society and media? Before you can fight for your family or those you love, you need to identify the points of attack and see the supernatural behind the natural.


QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION

1. Look at the families around you, the families you are familiar with. What are the ways in which they are being attacked? (Don’t make this judgmental. It’s simply an exercise to begin to help you practice discernment.)

2. There are symptoms to every disease. What are some symptoms that might be signs that a family is under attack through spiritual warfare?

Text: Psalm 104.24-35 Psalm 104 starts and ends with the words, “Praise the Lord, my soul”. The beginning and the end are a proclamation of praise to the Almighty God. In fact, the whole psalm is a review of the greatness of God in creation and, therefore, a meditation on God’s providence. To consider such things, helps us to draw closer to God and worship Him. If we are sincere with ourselves, our daily situations (children, work, news, stress, etc.) can take our attention away from God. It is not easy to just plug-in and worship the Lord. I find myself missing so much of God’s creation, because my mind wanders off to my daily concerns. My wife calls me to really see the beauty around us, otherwise I would miss it.
